For each installment, a distinguished figure is invited to deliver the Karl Schwarzschild Memorial Lecture. To date, we have been honored to feature Leonard Susskind (Standford University), Juan Maldacena (Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton), and 1999 Physics Nobel Laureate Gerard 't Hooft (Utrecht University).
A unique feature of the KSM is the focus on the next generation of researchers in the field of gravitation. The work of these junior scientists and students are featured in plenary sessions to highlight their work to all conference participants. A prize is awarded for the best junior and student presentation. To further foster the synergy and the collaborative spirit among the conference participants, the KSM offers a mentor program pairs these rising scientists with the keynote speakers for the duration of the meeting.
